7.2 earthquake has struck Eastern Turkey, making it the most powerful earthquake to hit the country in ten years.Tens of thousands fled into the streets running, screaming or trying to reach relatives on cell phones as apartment and office buildings cracked or collapsed. As the full extent of the damage became clear, survivors dug in with shovels or even their bare hands, desperately trying to rescue the trapped and the injured.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at least 93 people were killed in Van, 45 others died in Ercis, and about 350 were injured. Several people were still trapped under rubble, he said, without citing any estimates.Up to 80 buildings collapsed in Ercis, including a dormitory, and 10 buildings collapsed in Van, the Turkish Red Crescent said. The sheer number of collapsed buildings gave rise to fears that the death toll could rise substantially.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, 31, and his new bride, Queen Jetsun Pema, 21, were joined by thousands of royal enthusiasts, as the ceremony took place at a Himalayan monastic fortress. The ceremony, which included dance performances, baby elephants and a procession of singers, aired live on national television for Bhutan's 700,000 people.

The young queen studied subjects including English and economics at the prestigious Lawrence School Sanawar in India before pursuing her college degree at Regents College in London, where she focused on International Relations, Psychology and Art History. The king has a degree in Foreign Service Programme and International Relations from Magdalen College at the University of Oxford.

Her and I share one big thing in common - love and passion for art," Wangchuck told reporters following the ceremony. "While she is young, she is warm and kind in heart and character. These qualities together with the wisdom that will come with age and experience will make her a great servant to the nation," the king said at the time. The royal couple first announced their engagement on May 20, during the opening of the seventh session of parliament.

Apple Chairman And Former CEO Steve Jobs Died [1955-2011]

Steven Paul Jobs, the co-founder and chairman of Apple, died Wednesday at the age of 56. Apple has also put up the following website in memory. They’re asking for “thoughts, memories, and condolences” to be shared by way of this email address: rememberingsteve@apple.com

Jobs remained Chairman of the Board at the company, as well as director and an Apple employee. He recommended that company COO Tim Cook take his place as CEO. Yesterday, Cook gave his first keynote address as CEO, unveiling the new iPhone 4S.

While that device had been the focal point of Apple’s website for the past 24 hours, Apple.com is now simply dedicated to Jobs, using a famous picture of him (above) that will also grace the cover of his upcoming biography by Walter Isaacson due out next month. Jobs had battled cancer, and in 2004 had an operation related to the disease. In recent years, illness had forced him to step back from his role as CEO of Apple on separate occasions. He also had a liver transplant in 2009 during one of those medical leaves.

That performance as well has his announcement that he was stepping down as CEO of Apple for the final time, led to two of my favorite posts that I’ve ever written.

Steve Jobs was 56 years old. Rest in peace, Steve.

NASA Old Satellite Falling On Earth

6 tons, but officials might never be able to pinpoint exactly where a massive NASA satellite plummeted to Earth.NASA space junk scientists think that all — or nearly all — of the dead, 20-year-old satellite safely plunged into the Pacific Ocean. But if their estimates are off, by only five minutes or so, pieces could have fallen on parts of northwestern North America.

NASA space junk scientists said Saturday they believe that all - or nearly all - of the parts of their 20-year-old decommissioned satellite safely plunged into the Pacific Ocean, likely missing land. But if their estimates are off, by only five minutes or so, fiery pieces could have fallen on parts of Northwestern North America.

No injuries or damage were reported on land, which NASA officials said was a good indication the satellite went into the ocean. NASA's earlier calculations had predicted that the former climate research satellite would fall over a 500-mile swath and could include land. Officials said the 35-foot satellite fell sometime between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday and 1:09 a.m. EDT Saturday.

Do You Want Google Plus Invite? Get It Here

Social Networking Sites have evolved to a great extent and are a good source of information which can help in personalising the web experience. With the recent spat between Facebook and Google it was quite evident that Google will have its own way and the Google+ indeed seems to be an apt answer to Facebook. Google started the project step by step with Google Wave, Google Buzz and now its in penultimate stage. If you want to find out more about Google+, here is a link to the demo: http://www.google.com/+/demo/

Google Plus, Google's latest attempt at a social networking service, has launched in similar invite-only form. But instead of getting on the list at an exclusive club, a Google Plus invite is more like an opportunity to sign up for a slightly unsavory psychological experiment. Plenty of people are begging for Google Plus invites on Twitter, but people on Twitter would beg for a bullet in the foot if the bullet was made by Google.

Celebrations of Indian Cricket Team [World Cup 2011]

World cup final was interesting for many reasons but it would be remembered till eternity for the manner of win. The lost game was reclaimed not by miracle but by determination. The new India is different. Believe it or not, this victory is announcement of jettisoning of slavery mentality. Only a proud India can fight back. See the way Gambhir and Kohli batted after the fall of Sehwag and Sachin wickets. The phase of hero-worship is over in India. Every individual is great. Gambhir has faith in himself as he is representative of liberated India. Same is true of Virat Kohli. The two helped stabilize the score not only due to techniques alone but also due to faith in oneself.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni - their captain, talisman and most marketable player - lifted the biggest one-day prize on offer in the game to send a cricket-mad country into delirium. And he did it 28 years after Kapil Dev achieved the same feat at Lord's.And he did it 28 years after Kapil Dev achieved the same feat at Lord's.

ICC World Cup 2011 Opening Ceremony

The ICC World Cup is off to a spectacular start with 8 million viewers tuning in to watch the opening ceremony. The 2011 World Cup is going to be the world's third largest televised event with nearly 220 countries glued to the television sets and 3G mobile handsets.
During the 44-day tournament to be hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, there will be weeks of back-to-back television advertisements, road-side bill boards and advertisers finding different ways to make their presence felt during the event.
But advertisers still have a bitter after taste of the last World Cup when sponsorships went down the drain as India was knocked out in the early stages. It costs an estimated loss in viewership pegged at Rs. 153 crore. But this time around expectations are very high with Team India being in its best form. We will have to wait and watch if the high stakes pay off this time.
